A Disconnected Congress

The House of Representatives spent much of yesterday discussing H.ConRes. 248, the Afghanistan War Powers Resolution, sponsored by Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH).  The resolution would have required the president to remove all U.S. troops in Afghanistan within 30 days of the resolution being signed into law unless the president felt it would not be safe to do so.  In that case, the president would then have until December 31, 2010 to withdraw all troops from the country.  The resolution went directly against General McChrystal’s recommendation for the region and against President Obama’s own strategy.  It lost by an overwhelming vote of 356-65.

Not only would this resolution have sent a bad message to our troops overseas, it would also have sent a message to our enemies that we are not committed to winning the war on terror.  I was strongly opposed to this resolution and will continue to be opposed to any resolution like this one that does not give our full support to our men and women in uniform.

This resolution epitomizes the extreme disconnect between the American people and the majority party in Congress.  Rather than discussing legislation that will create jobs and improve our economy, the House of Representatives spent the day debating a resolution that would endanger our troops and undermine our efforts in Afghanistan and around the world.  The American people are sick and tired of Congress wasting precious time while the unemployment rate continues to hover at 10 percent and the economy still continues to lag.  They are fed up with a Congress that disregards what they want and need in order to push their own liberal agenda, including a massive government takeover of our health care system.

It’s time for this government get back to the business of representing our constituents.

Obama Willfully Ignoring Domestic Islamo-Fascist War On America.

If the shoe fits, wear it… and Obama is wearing out shoe leather on this one. In an article I wrote on Feb.17 (America’s War on Terror…Obama’s War on America), I said that it was time to ask, “Hey Obama, who’s side are you on?”. Suffice to say, there are a lot more questions about Obama’s motivations than answers.

As a Commander-in-Chief, it’s readily apparent that he is waffling and tentative at best, even making allowances for his lack of executive or command experience. His apologists are quick to point to his great intellect and thoughtfulness. I haven’t noticed any great intellectual horsepower there. I have noticed an awful lot of people running interference for him while trying to convince us of his genius.

Obama’s record of ignoring, obfuscating, covering up or lying about Islamo-fascist activities in this country goes back quite a way. Obama’s connection to CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) and to the Nation of Islam alone would prevent him from getting a federal security clearance. The number of connections to people with confirmed militant Islamo-fascist contacts is astounding, and in the chaos of the Obama administration’s efforts at dismantling our economy and our society have all but been forgotten.

Starting with George Bush cowardly avoiding saying what was only obvious to the rest of us after 9/11 by referring to Islam as “a religion of peace”, his government’s bi-polar war on terror, fighting an armed conflict in the middle east while simultaneously trying to convince Americans that the tens of thousands of muslims in our midst were as innocent as lambs and all solid patriots (pay no attention to the man behind the curtain), despite the fact that the very tenants of this benighted religion demands of its adherents that they wage war on the infidel, Obama has done nothing to further the war on terror and everything to retard its prosecution.

The Army’s 09L or “09 Lima” program trains noncitizen, native speakers of Middle Eastern languages to be translators for the U.S. Army. In January, the Army transferred the program from Fort Jackson (seen here) to Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

He would have done nothing about Iraq, except for the fact that we were already there, and in fact opposed the troop surge which proved to be the winning strategy there. He would most certainly have done nothing about Afghanistan either, except for the fact that he had shot his mouth off about it during the campaign and was then trapped into acting on it. He then decided not to proceed by dragging his feet for several months on giving his commanders the resources they required to complete the mission.

Obama’s pro-Islamist attitude has permeated a military already rife with political correctness, especially at the command level. Such machinations resulted in the cover up of the Fort Hood shootings and the apparent cover up of the Fort Jackson poisoning investigation.

Obama has also further weakened an already overwhelmed Border Patrol Service by reducing funding and reducing the number of agents working our southern border by 150.
Obama’s assault on our NASA space program is another mission-critical purposeful attack on our national security. The Chinese and Russians will be quick to militarize space. We would have no defense from such an assault except by being there.
Obama has much, very much to answer for.

I Bet They Didn’t Mirandize Him

Great news from Afghanistan: “Secret Joint Raid Captures Taliban’s Top Commander” putting aside for today the fact that the NYT leaked a secret again…something they do quite frequently.

The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Mullah Baradar has been in Pakistani custody for several days, with American and Pakistani intelligence officials both taking part in interrogations, according to the officials.

I frankly find this news more exciting because Pakistan was in on it than I do that this animal was captured. He’ll be replaced soon enough, but here’s hoping he gets the kind of interrogation accommodations due him based on his resume. And, given it wasn’t US that took him, it’s a safe bet we won’t be seeing him in NY any time soon standing trial.

Clear And Present Danger.

While American Marines, soldiers, NATO allies and Afghan troops put their lives on the line against a truly vicious Taliban foe, to free Afghanistan from their yoke of oppression and deny the Taliban their base of operations, President Obama is planning to steal YOUR freedoms…again. While our troops fight to uphold the principles of freedom, Obama steals around like a thief in the night.

Behind closed doors, with no press or other witnesses present, President Obama put every single taxpayer in this country ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS DEEPER IN DEBT! No fanfare on this one folks. No hysterical lapdog media breathless pronouncements of his brilliance and genius. Just more debt enslavement for you, your children and if he gets his way, their kids also.

With the stroke of a pen the President increased the debt limit of this country by ONE POINT NINE TRILLION DOLLARS from 12.4 trillion, an already unsustainable figure, to a mind-splitting 14.3 trillion dollars. This money is sure to be more pork smorgy and bribe (whoops) political-payback government feel-good money which will do nothing towards private sector job growth, in fact the opposite.
I warned about this before. Obama is acting like a petulant youth who has been punished by his parents and is scheming ways around them. He is desperate and dangerous.

The other analogy would be that of a cornered animal. The facts are that Obama is planning to bypass the will of the American people and the Constitution of the United States, to rule by fiat and decree like some of the third world thugs he so admires. The Constitution clearly defines the duties of the executive branch. Making law is not one of them… no not even close. Yet that is what the Anointed One intends to do. We should be burning up the wires to Washington with our calls, letters and emails of protest. He needs to know, his administration needs to know and the Congress needs to know that we will not stand for it.
His DICTATORSHIP BY FIAT WILL NOT BE STOOD FOR!

His plans for getting by executive order that which he was denied by the citizens, taxpayers and patriots of this country will have dire consequences. If he thought he saw tea parties before… he would see such an uprising as this country has never seen.
We remember Adolf Hitler, Mao and his Red Guards, Stalin and Pol Pot. We see Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. These people all ruled by fiat and decree also.
Don’t look for it to work here Obama, Americans are watching and we are ready to march.

A Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action

Obama has been a president defined by speeches. But if the old adages are true, that “actions speak louder than words” and “talk is cheap,” Obama must rise above rhetoric and get something done.

Every crucial moment and every tough decision of the Obama presidency has been accompanied by a speech. As, The Australian wrote of Obama,

Obama makes uniformly brilliant speeches. His presidency is so far more defined by speeches than any previous presidency. In his big foreign policy speeches you can often discern an internal tension, even struggle, between the postmodern pieties with their characteristic high-toned vagueness, and the hard-nut realism of Chicago.

Moreover, they’ve worked. Whenever Barack Obama opens his mouth you can be sure that it will be accompanied by some positive movement in the polls. For instance,

  • Following a speech in September, a CBS poll showed a 12% jump in how people perceived Obama’s handling of health care – from 40% to 52% approval
  • After a speech to Congress in February, Obama’s “approval ratings , as well as his likeability, believability and sincerity, increasing among all parties”
  • Obama’s speech at West Point, laying out his Afghanistan strategy, boosted the number of people who approved of his handling of Afghanistan from 41% to 49%

This jump in support is not the norm. A study by political scientist George Edwards concluded that,

“…[S]tatistically significant changes in approval rarely follow a televised presidential address. Typically, the president’s ratings hardly move at all. Most changes are well within the margin of error— and many of them show a loss of approval.

That Obama can influence the polls with a speech speaks to the level that people want to believe him. He is able to sound both smart and unassuming. He is a master of both diction and cadence. If words and promises made up the entire job description there is no doubt his presidency would be among the most accomplished. But in the end, none of this matters. Like Peyton Manning facing the Jets defense, people will eventually figure it out, and then…game over.

Last night’s State of the Union resurrected many of the ideas and promises that Obama made during his campaign. Should we expect a different outcome? Obama promised that the stimulus plan “would create up to 4 million new jobs, 90 percent of which will be generated by the private sector.” As to health care reform he said that “the only thing we’re going to try to do is lower costs.”  On earmark reform he quipped that “when I’m president, I will go line by line to make sure that we are not spending money unwisely.” The point being that Obama talks a big game, but rarely follows through. Even Nancy Pelosi has taken a swipe Obama’s failure to turn words into action, saying “”[t]here are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.”

But, Barack the-boy-who-cried-wolf Obama must now act, lest his latest grandiose speech become nothing more than another attempt to score as many political points as possible. The polls show that the strategy has worked thus far. In Year One voters have been content to support the nice-sounding but vague plans that Obama and the Democratic leadership have for the real life problems we face. But people, along with rank and file Congressional Democrats, are growing impatient with Barack Obama. If all Obama can accomplish is talk, there is a deep bench of Republicans ready to get into the game in 2010.

No-Bid Barack

No blood for lawyers!!

To varying degrees, every presidential candidate makes promises during the course of the campaign that the realities of governing eventually cause the winner to break.  But never has the US seen a president like Barack Obama, whose broken campaign promises far outnumber his fulfilled ones.

The list is seemingly endless:  no lobbyists in the administration, closing Guantanamo Bay, a tax cut for 95% of Americans, a net reduction in federal spending, no new taxes for anyone making under $250,000, health care negotiations on C-SPAN, on and on.  All broken.  What’s more, each of these was broken in absolute terms, not as a result of any nuanced position or interpretation.

Today comes word of another campaign promise to be added to the ash heap of “history’s unmarked grave of discarded campaign promises,” to paraphrase a prior occupant of the Oval Office.  As a candidate, Barack Obama promised to, “put an end to the abuse of no-bid contracts once and for all.”  So it was only a matter of time before Obama was certain to be discovered awarding no-bid contracts of his own.

Afghanistan Elections……. What Elections ?

http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-world/afghanistan-postpones-parliamentary-elections-20100124-msgl.html

A funding shortage and unrest in war-torn Afghanistan have forced authorities to postpone parliamentary polls due in May for four months, an election commission official said Sunday.

The ballot was originally planned for May 22, as required by the Afghan constitution, but will be postponed until September 18, Fazil Ahmad Manawi, a senior commissioner told reporters in Kabul.

The Independent Election Commission made the decision because of “lack of budget, security and uncertainty and logistical challenges,” the official said.

====================

“Funding shortage” - The American government will be suckered into…….. er……… threatened……… um……… asked…….. yeah, that’s it……  The American government will be asked to provide all the money, plus much more.

“Unrest” - George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and YOU will be blamed.

“As required by the Afghan Constitution” - The one in America doesn’t matter, so why should the one in Afghanistan ?

“The Independent Election Commission” - I like that…… Really…… I haven’t laughed that hard in days.

“Logistical challenges” - Not enough guns in-country yet to put at everyone’s heads for the vote to be a completely legitimate win for The Taliban.

——————–

………..while the current administration here, their owners and The Left watch and drool over the prospect of ‘postponing’ the elections here.

Irfan Ullah, from the lawless town of Darra Adam Khel, struck when police raided his hideout in Matni, an area in the outskirts of Peshawar, in country’s northwest, senior police official Mohammad Karim Khan said.

“Irfan Ullah blew himself up when police stormed into a hideout to arrest him,” Khan told AFP.

The Philippine government imposes a total ban on carrying firearms throughout the country today in the run-up to the general elections on May 10. As well, police and military units are moving throughout the nation to dismantle private armies in an attempt to keep political violence down.

Police and the military have identified between 90 and 132 private armies and have designated more than 500 towns and municipalities as “hot spots” prone to election violence.

At midnight on Saturday, police had set up 90 checkpoints throughout the 16 cities and one municipality that make up Metro Manila.

Afghanistan Crisis (1885)

Time: March 30, 1885
Place: Penjderh, Afghanistan

Russian forces crush Afghanistan army. Continue southward expansion. Great Britain fears Russian push into India.

April 26: British war preparations include occupation of port in Korea, threatening Russian Pacific port at Vladivostok. Pressure Turkey to allow Mediterranean Fleet permission to pass to Black Sea.

September 10: Compromise achieved.

Russian southward expansion in central Asia towards India and in west Asia towards Turkey was a major issue in the 19th. century. British fears for India’s safety and of Russian world dominance was another. Under Conservative Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, aggressive imperial policies were followed. Liberal William Gladstone advocated a “little England” approach to world affairs. World affairs did not allow him to adhere to this. During this time, (he was the Prime Minister but in June), the Liberal Administration fell and the Conservatives under Lord Salisbury took over. Practical considerations hindered Conservative aspirations, too. Thus the Liberal PM authorized warlike measures; then a Conservative PM authorized a compromise.
